As an somewhat intermediate language learner I was hoping to be able to read the Bible in German with the aid of a seeing the texts side by side in each language. It presents the texts well, but both translations are difficult to understand. The vocabulary is a bit archaic, and the sentence structures are complex. It was a poor choice for what I was hoping to accomplish.But I recognize that there may be other audiences for this book. If you are more skilled in German, or perhaps interested in this for scholarship, this may be well suited. But not a good choice for an intermediate language learner!
The less than 5 star review is because it did not suit my purpose of trying to get language instruction and Bible reading in at the same time. That would seem to be a logical purpose for a bilingual bible. To accomplish this it would need simpler translations for both languages. But to overall quality of the work is otherwise fine.

I use this bilingual Bible to learn German and to see just how accurate the English translation is compared to the German. This is a great deal at the price.
as a language student and an avid bible reader this book is perfect to help me learn new words and understand what I am reading.
Each verse is printed in English (King James Version, likely), then followed by the same verse in German. No more flipping back and forth to English and German texts.
Jump to chapter and verse index works well.
You could use this to improve your German OR you English, depending on which one you are trying to learn.
As a Christian and a scholar, I find this inexpensive addition to my library very helpful for maintaining my reading competency in German. Placing the English translation directly under the German text in a verse-by-verse format has been especially helpful for vocabulary recall.
The verse by verse translation is great practice for learning German. It's also good for reading those portions of Scripture with which I am so familiar, that I tend to race through the reading in English. The German slows me down and helps me concentrate on the meaning of the verse.
This is a complete Bible, so far as I can tell (I've only just started reading it) but there is very little introductory material. At the very end, the publisher says it has been compiled from standard reference Bibles.
I suspect that the texts correspond to the American Standard Bible in English and the Martin Luther Bible in German but I need to look into this.
There are no text notes and you can go directly to the beginning of each book by clicking on it in the table of contents. But you can't go directly to any particular chapter except the first one in each book. Inconvenient.
BUT you can use the "Search" function in the menu to enter the book name, chapter and verse in this format "John 316" to get to a particular verse. You don"t need to use an abbreviation for the book name because every verse is headed by the book name, chapter & verse, natch.This search works in either English or German.
The publisher states that it is intended for language students and is not a substitute for a regular Bible for Bible study.
That's OK, what more do you want for $1.99?
More info Dec 23, 2011. I have confirmed that the German text IS from the Martin Luther Bible - a bonus for me. Luther's translation has been regarded as the "standard" in German for 500 years, I think, because it is clearly written in plain language. Luther never used 5 words when one would do.
I feel that the Martin Luther is a great help to students studying German as a second language.
Virtually all "dual language" Bibles will get a FIVE star rating from me. Any tool that allows or supports sharing the word of God is already excellent by fiat. Having lived in Germany for over a decade I now have a method of communicating Christ directly and in the very words of their learning. Oh, how beautiful is this? Wouldn't it be great if we all could share the Word across several languages? God Bless you all.
